About Ghare Baire
Satyajit Ray’s 1984 film Ghare Baire (translation: The Home and the World) adapts Rabindranath Tagore’s novel of the same name, exploring themes of love, identity, and nationalism against the backdrop of the Swadeshi movement in early 20th century Bengal. The story centers on the complex dynamics between Nikhilesh, his wife Bimala, and Sandip, a charismatic nationalist. As Bimala is drawn into Sandip’s fervent nationalism, personal loyalties and ideals are tested amidst the backdrop of political upheaval. With Ghare Baire, Ray pays loving homage to Tagore’s literary legacy and explores complex political themes with uncommon depth, nuance and humanity.
Join us at the Indian Parallel Cinema Festival of Australia on the 10th of August 2024 at Palace Cinema Norton St in Leichhardt to view Sonar Kella on the big screen in addition to a Q/A discussion session attended virtually by our special guest and the star of Ghare Baire – acclaimed actor Victor Banerjee.

- Ticket can be scanned over phone, but phone screen should be properly visible, else you have to bring printed ticket confirmation for scanning purposes.
- Kids under 3years age Free but no seat allocated.
- Tickets are non-refundable – Once confirmed, ticket sales are final. No refunds, exchanges or cancellations are available.
- If an event is canceled/postponed, we will refund only the face value of the ticket and NOT the booking fee.
